Committee Treasurer - Karen Horn

Karen and Greg have been owners and residents of The Keys Apartments for 5 years. Karen has been a member of the committee as an Ordinary Member, Secretary and then Treasurer for over three years.
Karen has held the positions of Finance, Administration and Human Resource Manager, Clinic Practice Manager, Operations Manager and owned and operated her own businesses.
Karen has qualifications in Human Resource Management, Business Management Practices, Training and Assessment. Karen has worked in various industries including Retail, Medicine and Dentistry, State Government, Aviation, Banking, Travel and Tourism.
Karen and Greg moved to Cairns in 2010 from Adelaide for the Climate and Lifestyle. They both enjoy the outdoors and travelling as often and possible.
Committee Secretary - Steve Sewell

A diversified career which spanned 27 years full time service and 16 years Reserve service in the Royal Australian Navy as a Maritime Logistics Officer. Steve joined the Australian Public Service (APS) within the Department of Defence for a period of 12 years where he undertook a variety of governance duties within the Joint Logistics Command. Steve retired from the APS in January 2024. Steve looks forward to making a positive contribution to The Keys community.

Clive Abbott has worked in the real estate industry for more than 33 years and is the Principal of Betta Real Estate.
He handles the sale of both residential and commercial properties, with many major projects successfully completed in the region. He also undertakes specialised consultancy work for companies and individuals who are in need of management assistance
He has sold for and represented100’s of property owners and businesses of all types. He was the inaugural winner of the REIQ Salesperson Of The Year Award.
Prior to entering the Real Estate industry, Clive held a number of senior executive positions with a major national airline company, including as North Qld Manager and as Airport Manager for Sydney Airport.
He has been a Director of a number of not-for-profit organisations such as Advance Cairns, FNQ Area Consultative Committee (transitioned to Regional Development Australia) and Trinity Anglican School and is a Commissioner for Declarations. Clive was also the Body Corporate Chairperson for the ‘House on the Hill’ apartments for five years
He is currently a member of ‘The Keys’ Body Corporate Committee.
At ‘The Keys’ Clive has played a significant role in the creation of the Resident Manager’s position, together with locating and appointing the right person for the role. He has completed building a high quality dedicated Keys website in order to highlight the unique qualities that make living or owning at the complex so special.
The website will also advantage and support the Resident Manager in securing tenants and buyers for apartments. It is essential that the complex seize control of its own destiny with on-site people managing the leasing and selling of apartments rather than leaving it to 15 or more disinterested outside agents

Tony entered planet Earth just before Hitler, Mussolini and Glen Miller were about to depart it. His journey through life from rural England to the more remote outposts of its Colonial Empire could better be described as a series of wobbles and staggers rather than of focussed direction.
Armed with his personal mantra, “fortune favours drunks and little children”, it was obvious that the chaos theory would feature strongly throughout the route.
Mechanical engineering, Royal Navy, flying, sales & marketing, transport, road trains, oil refiner, hotels, resorts and tropical island were just some of the waypoints.After a period in engineering and corporate life as commercial manager for a major oil company in Australia, Tony sold everything and together with wife, friend, mentor Pauline their two young children Kate and James plus the family dog, drove his 4WD to Alice Springs.
He established a group of companies in fuel, refining & distribution, transport, hotels and resorts covering central Australia. This was then listed as a Public Company on the Australian Stock Exchange. Tony also developed and operated hotels & an island resort in Cairns where he and Pauline now live.
They have five grandchildren whom he has numbered 1 to 5 as their names confuse him but his requests to be called Sir or Mr Richards and not Grandad have failed, Granfuttocks remains the popular choice.
Tony continues on with community projects and committees, as well as enjoying writing memoirs of his journey so far..

Committee Member - Candy Mason
Candy bought at the Keys 12 months ago and is enjoying the lifestyle apartment living offers.
Candy graduated from Adelaide University with a Bachelor Degree and subsequent Masters Degree in Dentistry and enjoyed private practice for many years. She is now a clinical tutor at James Cook University and enjoys teaching the 2nd, 3rd and 4th year students.
Candy recently completed a Certificate in Horticulture at Cairns TAFE campus and enjoys working in the garden.

Greg Taylor is the appointed Resident Manager at The Keys Apartments. He lives on-site in the complex and it’s his intention to make this arrangement the best it can be for owners and tenants alike.
Having an on-site Real Estate letting licence he can offer a full service real estate experience in conjunction with Clive Abbott, who also lives on site and is a vastly experienced Real Estate Agent. Between them, they can provide owners with full on site service for all their letting and sales needs. This will deliver an upgrade in the performance of your investment through the detailed attention that can only be provided by people living on site.
